Baby boy #3 is five months old now. The days seem so long at times, but the weeks sure go by quickly!
Birth Story
I was scheduled for a c-section on March 6th (due date was 3-12), but baby boy had other plans. On the night of February 28th, we had severe storms and tornadoes in our area. I had heard that changes in pressure during severe storms can kick off labor and was really hoping that wasn’t the case since we live an hour away from the hospital. Thankfully I made it through the night with only a few contractions because a tornado actually touched down and caused damage in the area directly between us and the hospital that night.
Around 9:00 the next morning, I started having contractions fairly consistently. I was induced with my first son and my water broke before starting contractions with my second son, so it was difficult to know for sure if it was the real deal. I went ahead and ate lunch, but by suppertime I decided to call and see if I should head to the hospital. The contractions were getting stronger, and I really needed to either eat (due to gestational diabetes) or go in and get checked. The on-call doctor told me it sounded like I should go ahead and come in to the hospital. I was reluctant to go in case it wasn’t true labor (I didn’t want another $400 ob eroom bill.), but my husband was pretty convinced I was really in labor. When we arrived at 8 pm I was 3 cm dilated and still having regular contractions, so the on-call doctor decided to schedule the c-section for 9:30 that night. My doctor wasn’t on call, but THANKFULLY she decided to come in and do the surgery. They prepped me and then about 9:25, I felt my water break. My husband went out and told the nurse, so the doctor came in and checked me. She found I was already at 5 cm and sent me directly to the operating room. The contractions were getting really painful and close together by the time I made it to the OR. This made it very hard to move myself onto the table, but my doctor helped me maneuver over and sit on the edge for my spinal. She also stood there and talked me through each step of the spinal, which was SO helpful! Baby boy was born at 9:55 pm, weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces and measuring 19 inches long. My husband and I were so grateful to have a healthy and bright-eyed baby after such a difficult and worrisome pregnancy!
We have adjusted now to being a family of 5. Going from two to three was definitely a bigger adjustment than going from one to two, but I already cannot imagine my life without all three of my little guys. Baby #3 has added so much joy to our lives, and it is wonderful to see the love my older boys have for him!
We had newborn and family photos taken by Kelli at All Things Newborns. If you live in southeastern Illinois or southwestern Indiana, I highly recommend her. Kelli was extremely patient with my little man and worked so hard to make sure we had beautiful images by which to remember his fleeting newborn stage!
